
The benchmark DAX index at the Frankfurt Stock Exchange on Thursday closed slightly up by 0.35 percent.
The DAX index witnessed a roller coaster trading day and closed slightly up at 9,114.84 points.
Bolstered by strong quarterly financial results of the German companies, the DAX index opened higher but quickly lost the momentum. It picked up during the trading in the afternoon because of positive results from the stock markets in the United States, according to analysts.
Bayer AG, which has posted strong financial figures for the first three quarters, rose the most by 2.52 percent.
Volkswagen AG Vz gained by 2.22 percent. The second largest bank in Germany Commerzbank AG, which dropped by nearly 4 percent on Wednesday, advanced by 1.21 percent. Deutsche Post AG was up by 1.1 percent and Fresenius Medical Care AG & Co. went up by 0.99 percent.
Deutsche Lufthansa AG lost the most by 6.65 percent.
The industrial gas company Linde AG suffered losses of 230 million euros (about 290 million U.S. dollars) during the last three quarters. It slipped by 3.06 percent.
Deutsche Bank AG continued to drop by 1.74 percent. The chemical company LANXESS AG went down by 1.25 percent and adidas AG was 1.2 percent lower.
The turnover stood at 4.12 billion euros. Volkswagen AG Vz was the most traded share of the day with a turnover of 298.58 million euros. (1 euro = 1.26 U.S. dollars)
