Gold prices rose $4.20 and settled at $1,620.20 an ounce Thursday on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange. Silver added 2 cents to settle for $28.10 an ounce. The euro was $1.2304 from $1.2356 Wednesday. Against the yen, the dollar was 78.58 from 78.47 Wednesday. The British pound was $1.5637 from $1.5651 Wednesday. Against the Canadian dollar, the U.S. dollar was 0.9914 Thursday from 0.9949 Wednesday.
