Tokyo stocks ended lackluster trading Wednesday nearly flat as the market lacked direction amid a dearth of fresh incentives ahead of the start of the earnings report season.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average edged down 14.72 points, or 0.10%, from Tuesday to 15,328.56, according to Japan's (Kyodo) News Agency.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange finished 0.88 point, or 0.07%, lower at 1,272.39.
