
Tokyo stocks ended mixed Thursday, as the yen's appreciation against the US dollar eroded earlier gains on firm US stocks overnight.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average ended up 15.11 points, or 0.09 %, from Wednesday at 16,772.46, a roughly one-month high. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange finished 0.01 point lower at 1,342.87, according to Japan's (Kyodo) News Agency.
Major gainers included mining and pharmaceutical issues, while marine transportation and securities led decliners.
