A New York judge on Thursday found a Canadian actress guilty of stalking and harassing US movie star Alec Baldwin, and of contempt, sentencing her to 210 days in jail. Genevieve Sabourin relentlessly pursued Baldwin and terrified his young wife Hilaria, Judge Thomas Mandelbaum told the court, finding her guilty on five counts. Sabourin denied the charges, saying she had "done nothing wrong" and was looking only for closure after a romantic relationship with Baldwin in 2010. Baldwin denied their relationship was sexual and accused her of bombarding him with hundreds of unwanted phone calls and emails and of sending "vile" Twitter messages to his wife. The judge said that irrespective of the circumstances of her relationship with Baldwin she had no right to pursue contact with the star that she knew to be unwelcome. She subjected the A-lister to a "relentless and escalating campaign of threats" that "served to harass, annoy and alarm Mr Baldwin" and "terrorized his wife," the judge said. He said Sabourin had showed "utter lack of respect for the law" and a basic unwillingness to accept that the rules of civil society applied to her as well as to everyone else.
