Fox News anchor Heather Childers has spoken out following an on-air incident where she accidentally called UConn the "NAACP" champions. "The UConn Huskies are the 2014 N-double 'A'-C-P national champs!" the host obliviously announced with a smile after the final game. The University of Connecticut basketball team won 60-54 over the University of Kentucky Wildcats on Monday to claim the championship. Childers meant to reference NCAA, the National Collegiate Athletic Association, instead of NAACP, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People -- a mistake the anchor later acknowledged on her Twitter. @cd_citrisq thanks Chris. I misspoke & as soon as I did corrected it. Anyone who follows me knows I'm a huge sports fan. Totally misspoke— Heather Childers (@HeatherChilders) April 8, 2014 Thanks @Dave4Golf! I immediately corrected myself. Anyone who follows me knows I love sports. Just misspoke. Fuel 4 late night comics ;)— Heather Childers (@HeatherChilders) April 8, 2014 Childers corrected herself to "NCAA" later on in her segment.
