Glee paid an emotional tribute to actor Cory Monteith in its "City of Angels" episode on Tuesday night. Monteith had played the character Finn Hudson since the show's inception, but died from an accidental drug overdose in July 2013. Glee subsequently wrote the character off the show, and applied Monteith's death to Finn in an episode where the character's passing is addressed but no cause is given. Costar and real-life girlfriend Lea Michele was one of many shocked by Monteith's sudden death. A tribute to the actor was made in the episode that addresses Finn's death, and a second was made in Tuesday night's episode. The Glee cast took to the stage during "City of Angels" and performed "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" in remembrance of the actor. The performance in the show is set during the national competition, and Finn's mom and stepdad are shown in the audience. The character's mom tears up as she mentions that the song was Finn's favorite, and says the team has dedicated all of their songs in the competition to her son. Scenes that feature Monteith as Finn were shown during the song's duration, and character Sam Evans triumphantly holds up Finn's drumsticks at the end of the performance. Actress Lea Michele recently paid tribute to Monteith as well with the song "If You Say So" on her new album Louder.
