Rebecca Lim likes a challenge

\"I don\'t want to rest on my laurels; the more you say it\'s not me, the more I want to do it,\" said Singapore actress Rebecca Lim, explaining that she likes taking on challenging new roles and doing things that she has not attempted previously. That is why playing Song Xinmei, in Channel 8\'s currently-airing fantasy drama \"Absolutely Charming\", is right up her alley. In \"Absolutely Charming\", Lim plays a woman who got pregnant when she was just a teenager and gave birth to her son (Jason Li) against her father\'s (Richard Low) wishes. Although this is not the first time that Lim is playing a mother, she told Channelnewsasia.com that this role is still a challenge for her because she had to quickly transition from playing a psychopathic psychiatrist in \"Unriddle 2\", to playing the role of a loving mother in \"Absolutely Charming\". \"When I started playing this character, I was still a bit down and my character appeared older than she\'s supposed to be,\" said Lim, who plays the younger sister of Elvin Ng\'s character in the drama. \"On the first day of filming, the crew commented that I\'m so down that I appear to be Elvin\'s older sister,\" the actress said with a laugh before revealing that Ng, who is in reality seven years older than Lim, often irritates her by calling her \"jie jie (big sister in Mandarin)\". Aside from the challenge of getting into her character, Lim also took on the challenge of starring in her very first independent art house film \"Rough Mix\" right after her filming for \"Absolutely Charming\" ended. \"I was apprehensive at first, but later I just thought of it as a challenge,\" said Lim, going on to explain that the film would not be screened in Singapore due to its dark and controversial genre. You probably would not link \"Rough Mix\", an art film about homosexuality, revenge, anger and lust, with the sweet-looking star, but Lim simply brushed her family and friends\' \"Are you sure?\" looks aside and did it anyway. \"I can learn something from every project, so why not try it when I am still young! \"I\'m also currently learning hip-hop,\" said an enthusiastic Lim, who wants to do it \"because it\'s not me.\" \"I have always been awkward with my body and I was thinking dancing would be a way to build my confidence and (correct) my posture,\" explained Lim. What would Lim\'s next challenge be? \"Probably a dance drama?\" replied Lim with a chuckle. \"Absolutely Charming\" airs every weeknight, 9pm on Channel 8.
