Syria Could be Willing to Consider Prisoner Swap with Rebels
Bashar Al.Assad with a group of syrian people
Damascus - Arab Today
The Syrian government said on Monday it was ready to agree prisoner swaps with rebel groups.
Syrian state media said the government was “always ready” to exchange prisoners in its jails for people “kidnapped by terrorist groups,” “particularly in the framework of efforts being made for the coming meeting in Astana.”
There was no immediate reaction from rebel groups, which have long demanded a prisoner release from the government as one of a number of humanitarian measures they say it must take ahead of any peace talks.
Kazakhstan’s foreign ministry said on Saturday that Syrian government and rebel delegations were invited to attend meetings on the Syria crisis in its capital, Astana, on Feb. 15-16.
Separately, UN-backed peace talks are due to start in Geneva on Feb. 20. The main Syrian opposition body on Sunday approved its delegation to the talks.
This month, the Syrian government and rebel groups swapped dozens of women prisoners and hostages, some of them with their children, in Hama province in northwestern Syria.

Two months after legendary designer Azzedine Alaia's sudden death plunged the fashion world into mourning, an exhibition in homage to the "King of Cling" opens Monday in his studios in Paris. The Tunisian-born designer, renowned for the way his clothes hugged the body, died suddenly in November aged 82, reportedly of heart failure after falling down the stairs at his home. The diminutive maverick, who ignored fashion week convention by showing when and where he wanted, in July produced his first couture collection in six years to rapturous reviews. Now some of his most iconic dresses are going on display in the glass-roofed gallery next to his studio and home in the Marais district where he used to show his creations. It includes the dress worn by supermodel Naomi Campbell, his longtime friend and muse, when she led
