ADEC launches 100-day mission as part

The Abu Dhabi Education Council, ADEC, has announced the launch of its 100-day mission, which focusses on improving student performance and encourages international assessments.
Activities for the mission have been designed based on research and development analysis results of the previous Programme for International Student Assessment, PISA, and Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study, TIMSS.
As part of efforts to improve the performance of students in the next cycle of international assessments, ADEC organised an International Assessment Campaign for more than 500 educators from across public and private schools in Abu Dhabi.
The meeting included discussions on ways to implement the best practices of PISA and TIMSS, the important role played by schools, as well as school results, and the effect of examinations on assessments.
Dr. Ali Al Nuaimi, Director-General of ADEC, stressed the importance of international assessments and their pivotal role in providing additional information on performance indicators that help measure student progress and achievements in education in Abu Dhabi schools.
"ADEC is certain that schools are aware of the importance of participating in international assessments in order to raise the quality of education. It is also important for schools to familiarise themselves with the level of progress in education to reach the best practices, in light of the policies and systems in the education sector.
"ADEC, in partnership with schools, has taken great strides in achieving the Abu Dhabi Plan to stand out as one of the best educational systems in the world. As part of the emirates’ economic vision to witness growth, development and prosperity, we need to raise a promising and educated generation of youth, who can contribute and compete on the national and global level," Dr. Al Nuaimi said.
Hamad Al Dhaheri, Executive Director of the Private Schools and Quality Assurance sectors, PSQA, highlighted the fact that examinations are an important tool for studying international educational assessments and standards.
"It allows educators and decision makers to gather holistic data, information and international assessment comparisons regarding student experiences and concepts in Mathematics and Science. This encourages students to become familiar with the best educational practices around the world, thereby raising educational standards across schools in Abu Dhabi. Our students are more than capable of competing in international assessments on a global level," he said.
School leaders, cluster managers, and assessment master trainers, who were amongst the participants invited to attend ADEC’s International Assessment Campaign, were given details on the activities of the 100-day mission. It includes training workshops for assessment master trainers from both public and private schools, conducted between June and September 2017.
