Is your skin getting dry and flaky? Combat the effects of seasonal change
Abu Dhabi - Emirates Voice

If you aren't familiar with that catchphrase, then "you know nothing, Jon Snow!" Winter is almost well upon us, so we can now all collectively rejoice and do the happy dance we Dubai denizens do every time we edge closer to the end of the year.

Winter is a beautiful time in our city: cold breeze blows in our hair, cars finally stop feeling like the inside of an oven, stylish boots and trench coats pop out of the closet and so much more. The one important thing to remember though is, while we can't wait for the cold to kick in, our skin does need a little bit of prep to get ready for the new season. Because let's face it - the cooler weather isn't always good for our skin. The drop in temperatures tends to sap skin of its natural oils, leaving it dry and stressed. Well, do not worry your pretty little head - there are ways to combat it all.

Stay on top of your skin care routine by moisturising your skin regularly in the lead up to and during the winter months. This way, by the time the season is upon you, your skin will be 'winter-ready'.

When you switch your seasonal wardrobes, it's a good idea to do the same with your skin care products too. Use creams - which are typically more moisturising - instead of lotions, which don't provide as strong an oily barrier to reduce water loss in the skin. While creams feel heavier on the skin, they do a much better job of protecting it against temperature and humidity extremes.

Give the Sodashi Rejuvenating Face and Neck Moisturiser a go. Loaded with nourishing plant extracts, it comes with great benefits, from combating dryness to getting that youthful glow.

Ironically, the very things that make us feel good in the moment - such as long, hot showers or baths - can leave our skin crying out for moisture over the long term. Opt for shorter, more lukewarm baths and showers, and pat your skin dry afterward - following up quickly with a layer of moisturiser from head to toe.

Give the Vaseline Spray Moisturiser a whirl: its light, easy formula sinks into the skin within seconds and works wonders, moisturising it from the inside out.

No sun? No problem, but the sunscreen stays! Though we're less exposed to the sun in winter, that doesn't mean we should stop protecting ourselves from its rays altogether. Some skin creams have sunscreen built into them, but make sure they carry an SPF rating of 15 or higher.

Chapped lips are the bane of winter living. Get rid of that dry, flaky skin with a good sugar scrub.

You can make one at home too: all you need to do is mix regular sugar with some jojoba or coconut oil and rub gently on the lips once a day. Add a little honey for healing properties. Follow up with a nourishing lip balm and say hello to kissable lips. Mwah!
