His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa asserted Bahrain’s firm commitment to international human rights covenants and laws. “Human rights represent a core part of Bahrain’s culture, authentic Arab identity and tolerant Islamic faith”, he said as he received, at Al-Safriya Palace, National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) Chairman Said bin Mohammed Al Fihani and board of commissioners members on their appointment by Royal Order. NIHR Acting Secretary-General Dr. Khalifa bin Ali Al-Fadhel was also present.

He congratulated them all on their appointment and wished them success in assuming this national responsibility, hailing their advocacy competence and expertise. He also commended the dedicated efforts of the outgoing members to instill the principles of human rights in Bahrain.

He hailed the competence of Bahrainis working in the field of human rights and their dedicated role in advocating national issues in regional and international arenas. He commended the crucial role of the board of commissioners and national watchdog in developing and protecting human rights, instilling its values and ensuring rights are exercised in total freedom and independence.

HM the King hailed Bahrain’s 3rd Universal Periodic Review before the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, adding that the national report earned the praise of many participating countries. “Bahrain takes pride in its outstanding human rights record which is based on modern and developed constitutional and legal provisions”, he said, haling Bahrain’s long-standing heritage of co-existence, fraternity, equality and plurality.

Fihani paid tribute to HM the King, hailing royal directives and support to the national watchdog to promote human rights which, he said, reflects Bahrain’s marked progress in the prosperous era and as well as strides in applying international standards in all fields. He hailed the wise leadership for its keenness on fostering and protecting human rights, which, he said, represent a key pillar of the state of law and institutions. He paid tribute to His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al-Khalifa and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al-Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Premier.
