U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, Nikki Haley, said Sunday her visit to Jordan aims at taking a firsthand look at the conditions of Syrian refugees and learn about the Kingdom’s efforts in helping the refugees and providing them with services.

The U.S. official gave her remarks after a visit to the Dhahiyat Al Amir Hassan School in Amman that was built under funding from the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and includes hundreds of Syrian and Jordanian students.

Haley said: “We want to see what has been done to help Syrian refugees and Jordan and what can be done and how we can be more cooperative and helpful in this regard, through the United States, the United Nations and Jordan, in order to deal with this important issue of Syrian refugee crisis and the huge burden borne by Jordan as a result.”

The U.S. Ambassador noted that she will discuss these issues with senior Jordanian officials with whom she will meet during her two-day visit.

USAID Mission Director in Amman, Jim Barnhart, said the agency had chosen the Dhahiyat Al Amir Hassan School as one of the 28 schools financed by the USAID “in which we have adopted modern methods of education that focus on engaging students in various activities through the available facilities such as the scientific office, laboratories and others, which give students confidence to make scientific progress.”

Earlier, Haley visited the Al Zaatari camp in the northern governorate of Al Mafraq and was briefed on services provided to refugees and Jordan’s efforts in this regard.

She also visited the local community in neighboring villages of the Al Zaatari to see how local communities are subjected to considerable pressure on infrastructure, water and other sectors as a result of hosting large numbers of Syrian refugees, including those with whom they share resources and jobs despite their scarcity.
