UAE-based charity Dar Al Ber Society has spent more AED 7.4 million on 2,458 low-income families, Emiratis and people of different nationalities, in the first quarter of the year.
On top of that, the charity paid more than AED1.3 million against the tenancy rents for 197 indigent families, and AED 30,608 against electricity bills for nine low-income families.
This covered 14 types of financial allowances for vulnerable people in the first three months of the year, said Abdullah Ali bin Zayed Al Falasi, Executive Director of Dar Al Ber.
"Dar Al Ber paid AED1,573,560 against school fees for 303 male and female students of low-income families and AED 491,742 against university fees for 69 students."
This added to AED1,074,037 for purchasing medicine to treat 103 poor patients and AED 425,370 for paying out the debts of 33 defaulters involved in traffic accidents and crimes.
Dar Al Ber also supported preachers and Sharia students with AED 36,120, paid AED 36,356 in tickets for 16 wayfarers, AED 40,000 as marriage assistance for five people, AED 6,000 to support three new Muslim converts, he continued.
"These are apart from the ‘Lifetime Umrah’ trips, worth AED 1,622,150, which 2,228 low-income people benefited from. Up to AED1,031,079 were also spent as general expenses for 304 poor people,"
The summer project was also included in the charity projects for the first quarter of 2017. Dar Al Ber has provided AED13,590 for buying air conditioners and fridges to 11 low-income people, Al Falasi noted.
