The Emirati Women's Day
Sharjah - Emirates Voice

The Emirati Women's Day goes beyond the mere observation of women's rights to represent a weighty occasion for us all to evaluate the efforts made nationwide to empower women across different fields, said H.H. Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Wife of H.H. the Ruler of Sharjah, Chairperson of NAMA Women Advancement Establishment (NAMA) and Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs.

Her Highness made the statements while speaking to Emirates News Agency, WAM, on the occasion of the Emirates Women's Day launched by 'Mother of the Nation' Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women’s Union, Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation and President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood.

"The UAE has not created a women's day for the sake of celebration that ends by the fall of August 28th every year; but rather established this day to embody the great value added by women in the process of building this nation across all areas of life. It's deeply entrenched in the nation's conscience that women assume a fundamental role in establishing any civilisation and strengthening the pillars of any society, not to mention her role as an enabler for development, progress and growth," H.H. Sheikh Jawaher added.

"The UAE used to have a strong belief in women's capabilities since the day of declaring the country's federation, as our identity is deeply rooted in the Arab and Islamic culture where our Prophet Mohamed (Peace be upon him) had opened the door for women's empowerment, and his experience with the 'Mother of Believers' Khadijah Bint Khowailed is a testament to his vision for the role of women in the society, a fact which was verified by his resort to her when he was entrusted with the Divine revelation in addition to her indispensable role in the political and economic process in Mecca during that period. Therefore, the UAE society inherited this belief in the paramount importance of the role played by women in the developmental process in any society and their contributions have been gaining momentum and ground year after year at the legislative, administrative and executive levels in areas of business, arts and innovation."

"What sets the UAE apart in terms of women's empowerment is the collective approach adopted by the Emiratis thanks to the directives of their leaders where women's empowerment has become a well-concerted action aimed at strengthening women's representation across all fields and improving their conditions at the social, medical and cultural levels," she added.
