Kuwait - Emirates Voice

Kuwait’s First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Shaikh Sabah Al Khalid Al Hamad Al Sabah has met chiefs of diplomatic missions to shore up support for Kuwait as it seeks a non-permanent seat in the UN Security Council (UNSC), 2018-2019.
Addressing the foreign envoys, Shaikh Sabah highly appreciated the "friendly and sister countries" for their support to Kuwait during its election campaign for non-permanent membership in the UNSC was overwhelming.
He expressed hope for more support during the election of the UNSC non-permanent members, due at the UN General Assembly on June 2, Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) reported.
Some 40 years have elapsed since Kuwait first won a non-permanent seat in the UNSC (1978-1979), the minister said, pointing out the country is appreciative of the rabid support it has gotten since the launch of its campaign in December 2011.
On Kuwait's ties with the international community, Sheikh Sabah said that the country has always strived to maintain friendly ties with the rest of the world, ones founded on mutual respect and an unflinching belief in sovereignty.
Speaking on Kuwaiti's priorities if its aspirations for a non-permanent seat in the UNSC come to fruition, he said that the primary goal is to effectively deal with conflicts that threaten global peace and security, stressing that this can only be done through peaceful means, the news agency added.
Shaikh Sabah listed other priorities, including the need to ensure a harmonious world that is void of malevolence, where nations can peacefully co-exist with one another.
He also underscored the Kuwaiti Foreign Ministry's resolve to work closely with all international envoys in order to address the concerns of the UNSC.
