A total of 594 prisoners were released as part of a royal order issued by Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman to mark the start of Ramadan.
Sixty-two prisoners were released in Makkah, 376 in Madinah and 156 in Asir after Maghreb prayers on Sunday. Officials were working around the clock to complete the procedure.
The prisoners and their families expressed their gratitude to King Salman, and said it was an opportunity to improve their lives. Freed inmates received gifts — white thobe, religious tapes, awareness books and vouchers.
