UAE Parliamentary Division calls on UN Security Council

The UAE Parliamentary Division has called on the United Nations, UN, Security Council to shoulder its historic responsibility of protecting the Palestinian people and their sacred shrines, as well as to hold Israel accountable for its crimes and compel it to reverse its illegal actions in the Holy City of Jerusalem and the Al Aqsa Mosque compound.

Marwan bin Ghalitha, member of the UAE Parliamentary Division, expressed the UAE's absolute rejection of Israel’s measures and aggressive acts against the holy shrines and the freedom to practice religious activities.

Speaking at the 25th emergency conference of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union, AIPU, which was held in Rabat, Morocco, on Thursday, Marwan bin Ghalitha called on Israel to comply with the resolution of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation, UNESCO, on the protection of the Palestinian cultural heritage in East Jerusalem.

He deplored the oppressive restrictions imposed by Israel, which aim to change the "fait accompli" in the occupied holy city and old city, and deny Muslim worshippers their right to enter the Al Aqsa Mosque and practice their religious rituals.

''The repetition of such unlawful acts could trigger religious wars that would threaten international peace and security,'' he warned.
