The Emirates Authority for Standardisation and Metrology, ESMA
Dubai - Wam

The Emirates Authority for Standardisation and Metrology, ESMA, has revealed a radical shift in the consumer culture towards the use of energy saving devices and tools in the private buildings and facilities in the UAE, as the trend toward higher (five and four) stars increased, compared to a marked decline in the lowest rated devices.

ESMA’s Director-General, Abdullah Al-Maeeni, who was talking to reporters yesterday, on the sidelines of the participation at the Big 5 in Dubai, said that the total number of electricity and water fixtures products with Energy efficiency card reached 54,176 products, 35,000 five-star products and 19,000 other 4-star products.

The UAE energy efficiency programme has been applied to all the most energy consuming and newly imported electrical appliances for local markets. Two years ago, a similar system was applied to the energy efficiency card for water consumption.

"ESMA focuses on creating the legislative structure that serves the government's orientations. Reduce energy consumption, and promote sustainability, by creating environmentally friendly solutions, and saving in consumption," Al-Maeeni said.

ESMA has achieved remarkable growth through the implementation of the UAE system for the control of trailers and semi-trailers, which serves the construction sector and other vital platforms in the UAE, and takes into account the highest standards of safety, efficiency, on the roads when transported by these trailers. The total number of trailers with a certificate of conformity reached 19,645 since the application two years ago, until the end of last October.

The system defines the safety requirements for trailers and semi-trailers manufactured locally according to ESMA’s approved standards. It includes the technical requirements for the mechanism of issuing structural numbers, data plates for trailers, semi-trailers, dimensions, weights and technical requirements for rear and side barriers.
