Kuwaiti cops get high-tech in war against speeders

Kuwait police cars have been equipped with a high tech system to help detect motorists breaking the law, the state news agency reported. The “smart patrols” are electronic state-of-the-art devices which have been attached to police cars and include sensors, radar systems and cameras. Each car is equipped with a voice system that alerts the officer about the status of a passing car, KUNA reported. There are currently 20 of the smart patrol cars deployed on Kuwaiti roads. They include a radar which is able to monitor up to 40 cars per minute and judge whether they are speeding. Images of activities on the roads are automatically transmitted to the operations room of the Ministry of Interior and the patrol car can be updated automatically every half an hour. The new technology is “a major step forward in efforts to monitor, track down and apprehend offenders and law-breaking motorists,” KUNA added.
