London - Arabstoday

DPS-Modern Indian School (DPS-MIS) has marked its 11th annual day with a two-day celebration which saw students of the junior and senior schools showing off their cultural skills. The students of the junior school enthralled the audience with their musical performances during the 11th annual day ceremony at Doha Cinema yesterday. The programme titled ‘Jashn’ was designed to send a message of the joy of togetherness. Students of the junior school presented a tableau of dance forms from various communities across the world, celebrating hard work, camaraderie and unity. The bright, colourful and rhythmic presentations included carnivals of Mexico, graceful steps of China, mellow moves of Russia, synergy of Africans and vibrancy of Indians. The performance by the orchestra of the junior school was a treat to watch with 22 students playing in unison on the keyboard, tabla, drums, guitar, violin and bongo. The musical piece, which was again about togetherness, was composed by Nitin Singh. The programme started with the recitation of the Qur’an by Abdul Raheem, followed by the presentation of a musical piece on the relevance of dreams in life by the school choir Singing Stars, compiled by school teacher Sangita. Subsequently, the school orchestra presented a well co-ordinated and rehearsed piece on togetherness, followed by the carnival which mesmerised spectators through a fusion of the beauty of melody and rhythm, of innocence, energy and colour. The carnival dances ranged from Brazilian and Mexican dance forms to Russian and Chinese dance forms and also included Indian classical dance forms such as Odissi and Mohiniyattam, as well as Western dance form Salsa. M R Qureshi, first secretary at the Indian embassy; Hamad al-Mari, SEC inspector of education, school officials, parents and students attended the programme. The celebrations ended with a performance by the children of the senior wing titled ‘Ehsaas - A Bouquet of Feelings’, a canvas of human life, rich with colours of different feelings including affection, anger, courage, envy and love. “Ehsaas was aimed at conveying the message of channeling these feelings to work in favour of mankind and not be a slave to it, depicted by students in various dance forms,” a school official said. The senior school orchestra performed ‘Harmony’, composed by Nitin Singh, on the keyboard, tabla, guitar and drum. Indian Ambassador Deepa Gopalan Wadhwa, Second Secretary of the Indian Embassy  Nautyal, DPS-MIS Patron Aisha bint Mohammad bin Hammam, members of Management, school officials and a large community of parents, students and staff graced the occasion. Student achievers in academics, sports and extra-curricular activities were  honoured with certificates, a trophy, blue blazer or a blue tie.
