Manama - Arabstoday

Schoolteachers in Saudi Arabia have resorted to social networks and smart phone features to post funny remarks made by students on their exam papers. “Please, teacher, make sure I pass the exam because my father has promised to buy me a Playstation,” one student wrote. “The teacher who will grade my paper and will overlook some mistakes will be praised by her husband,” a student at a girls’ school wrote. Raja Al Dossari, a teacher, said that she appreciated the idea of sharing the students’ remarks. “This move has enabled users to gain insights into the special world of students sitting for exams,” Raja Al Dossari, told local Arabic daily Al Sharq. “It genuinely showed their good sense of humour and fun-loving character.” However, Raja said that she did not get involved in posting the remarks or scanned exam copies on which the students wrote remarks. “I do not mind it at all and I think it is interesting, but I did not contribute to it,” she said. Mohammad Al Shahri, a teacher, said that he did not support the public sharing of remarks by the students. “The comments are often shameful and indicate the low standards of the students’ culture,” he told the daily. “In fact, some of the comments lacked respect for teachers. I believe that this is a waste of time,” he said.
