Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum
Dubai - WAM

H.H. Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Deputy Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council, DEC, headed a meeting of the Council at its headquarters in Emirates Towers.
During the meeting, several topics were discussed, and in attendance was H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Second Deputy Chairman of the DEC, along with the general directors and members of the council.
At the beginning of the meeting, the members reviewed a suggestion on developing standards for higher education for the Emirate of Dubai. Humaid Al Qatami, Chairman of the Board and Director-General of Dubai Health Authority, in co-ordination with the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, proposed developing Dubai’s higher education standards based upon an assignment from the Executive Council, to focus on their main ideas for elevating the quality of higher education in Dubai.
Al Qatami also reviewed the current situation in higher education in Dubai. He highlighted its strengths and improving the system, and presented a new concept about the standards to guarantee the quality of Dubai’s higher education. He noted that Dubai seeks to strengthen its stature as a centre of local and international higher education by putting in place plans and strategies to develop advanced levels of quality and diversity of educational programmes, to answer the needs of Emirati students, residents and foreign students.
Further, representatives of Dubai Municipality discussed, along with members of the Executive Council, a strategy to improve the quality of the Emirate of Dubai’s air, in a bid to provide the city with clean air based upon international standards. Announcements were also made about initiatives that aim to decrease air pollution found in certain sectors, such as the transport and industry sectors, as well as pollution caused by the production of energy.
The strategy aims to locate sectors that will expand based upon sustainable visions and patterns according to international specifications and standards, in line with the development witnessed by the UAE in various economic and development areas, as well as to raise the public’s awareness about air quality.
