Sheikh Khalid Bin Ahmed Bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Director General of DeG
Sharjah - Arab Today

Sharjah Department of eGovernment (DeG) has approved the slogan “Sustainability and Innovation” for its participation in GITEX Technology Week 2016, which will take place from October 16-20 at Dubai World Trade Centre.

DeG is the official body tasked with the digital transformation and maintaining electronic security across all government sectors in the emirate. The department is also responsible for providing the necessary requirements and digital services that allow Sharjah government departments to display their latest initiatives during the exhibition.

The slogan reflects Sharjah’s strategy of diversifying its economy while committing to the highest standards of organic growth and technical creativity. It also echoes Sharjah’s ambition to become an ecology-friendly emirate in all walks of personal and professional life.

Sheikh Khalid Bin Ahmed Bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Director General of DeG, said: “This motto is very much in line with the directives of the UAE’s leadership and the UAE Vision 2021 to develop government services, increase efficiency and be environmentally responsible. In our role as advisors, implementers and suppliers of e-services and digital transformation, we have chosen a slogan that represents these aspirations.”

Sheikh Khalid Al Qasimi added: “’Sustainability and Innovation’ is a very strong, yet very simple message which sums up our desire to provide the most contemporary services and effective processes to other government departments and ultimately to both the residents and visitors to Sharjah."

The Director General of DeG concluded: “Sharjah has been recognised locally and regionally for its leading sustainable and innovative approaches, including the emirate’s strategy to divert 100% of its waste through recycling and conversion – it has so far recycled 70% of waste. It is also moving in compliance with the UAE’s plans of reforestation, one of the pillars of Sharjah Municipality’s mission. The emirate has also become a leading player in the ecotourism industry, exemplified by initiatives such as the Kalba and Mleiha projects, as well as Al Noor Island. Therefore, we focus on integrating our digital services with these initiatives, and create a complete set of facilities that sustain this growth for future prospects.”

As the local official body mandated to organise and manage the unified pavilion of the Sharjah Government, DeG is tasked with organising the emirate’s pavilion at GITEX 2016 which is inspired by Al Noor Island – a leading leisure destination that reflects the emirate’s approach towards sustainability.
