Qatar Foundation International (QFI) Youth Ambassadors for Science and the Environment from Qatar, Brazil and the US will gather in Rio de Janeiro during the Rio + 20 Earth Summit and will participate in Rio + Social on June 19. Rio+Social promises to be one of the most important gatherings of technology, social media and global leaders in the history of South America. This global conversation, focusing on topics related to Social Good and how new media can help foster positive solutions to the world’s biggest problems, comes at a time when the world gathers to discuss issues that affect us all. “There has never been a better time for the world’s young people to engage in the global conversation about sustainability and the Earth’s future. We welcome the QFI Youth Ambassadors as part of the community that supports Rio + Social and the global conversation that is emerging around these important meetings happening this month in Brazil. Social media and technology have brought out world closer together and these young people are a powerful symbol of what we can achieve when we come together to work on common goals and find innovative solutions,” said Aaron Sherinian, vice president, Communications and Public Affairs, United Nations Foundation. QFI Youth Ambassadors will join the conversation at Rio + Social, using technology and digital media to showcase how social media has changed the way we interact with each other and the world. Live from Rio, the ambassadors will write, tweet, interview and blog about the efforts to tackle the global challenge of climate change and enhance global sustainability. They will join the Rio + Social conversation with millions of digitally connected, global citizens around the world who also have a perspective on how we approach the future of our world. Together with their fellow citizens, these youth ambassadors want to be part of the conversation taking place around major international meetings and important UN summits such as Rio +20. “QFI’s youth ambassadors hail from Qatar, Brazil, and the United States and they each have a unique voice and perspective on the global challenges of climate change,” said Helene Theros, Senior Communications Officer at QFI. “The Rio+Social event will be an amazing opportunity for them to join the global conversation and inform both themselves and others on critical environmental issues using the power of technology and social media.” The public can engage with the Rio + Social now on www.rioplussocial.com.
