South Korean TV manufacturers are making billion dollar bets on a new display technology that promises an even thinner screen and imagery of eye-popping clarity. Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics are hoping their \"OLED\" technology will keep them ahead in an intensely competitive business that has caused losses in the TV division of Japan\'s Sony. They are releasing the wafer-thin TVs this winter but their prices will be several thousand dollars higher than other flat-screen TVs. The new TVs will boast vivid, saturated colors and deeper contrast than the displays now available in the market. But it is unclear whether consumers would be willing to pay premium prices.
