South Sudan resumes oil production

Officials said South Sudan resumed oil production more than 14 months after it was halted because of the conflict with neighboring Sudan, The World Tribune newspaper reported Wednesday. The officials said Juba s oil output was expected to reach the pre-suspension level of 375,000 barrels per day. In the first stage, officials said, oil production would reach between 150,000 and 200,000 barrels per day. The officials said the crude would be exported through Sudan by June under a new financial arrangement. Officials have not disclosed the new fees for the use of Sudan s oil export pipeline, which reaches Port Sudan. The officials said South Sudan agreed to unspecified concessions as part of efforts for an economic rebound in 2013.
