Ahly\'s Aboutrika named Best Africa-based player

Footballer of the year Yaya Toure at the post-awards press conference Al-Ahly striker Mohamed Aboutrika has won the best Africa-based player award at the 2012 Confederation of African Football (CAF) Awards in Accra. The 34-year old, who led the line for the Red Devils at the Club World Cup in Japan, beat Zambian duo Stopila Tzunzu and Rainford Kalaba to the main award. It completed a great week for the Egyptian, who was given the FIFA Club World Cup best goal accolade for his striker against Sanfreece Hiroshima.
Ahly were also named CAF African club of the year for their Champions League exploits, and duo Aboutrika and Ahmed Fathi were named in the CAF team of the year.
In the main continental award, Manchester City\'s Yaya Touré beat fellow Ivorian Didier Drogba into second place, to be crowed the 2012 African footballer of the year.
The winners were announced after voting by the head coaches and technical directors at African clubs. The Africa Cup of Nations winners Zambia were named team of the year, with their coach Hervé Renard named coach of the year.
