Brook (right) beat Hector Saldivia in October Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn has requested that Sheffield fighter Kell Brook's world title fight against Devon Alexander is delayed by three to four weeks, after he suffered an ankle injury in training. Brook was scheduled to travel over to the United States for his big night on January 19. However, Matchroom promoter Hearn has revealed that the Sheffield star does not want to take any risks.
Hearn said: "Kell sustained an ankle injury that has hampered his training and running work over the last few days. I'm concerned mainly for the travelling UK fans and it's in no-one's interest for the fight to fall through closer to the time, so last night I requested a three to four week delay to the original date of January 19. This will eradicate the risk and ensure Kell will be 100 per cent for the biggest fight of his life."
Brook knocked out Argentine Hector Saldivia in October to become the mandatory challenger for Alexander's IBF welterweight title. The Yorkshireman is unbeaten in 29 fights.
Meanwhile, Hearn has announced that Northern Irishman Carl Frampton will fight European middleweight champion Kiko Martinez in February. The bout will take place in Belfast and Hearn thinks it will be special. "I am delighted that Carl and Kiko will finally fight. It has been a long time coming but it is a great fight and one that we felt had to happen for Carl," he said.
