His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah on Saturday expressed "heartfelt sorrow and deep sadness" at the passing of King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud.
His Highness the Crown Prince said that Kuwait mourns the loss of "the great king, who gave his life to serve his nation, the Arab and Islamic worlds and global peace." Sheikh Nawaf added that King Abdullah had the attributes of "chivalry, gallantry, honesty, justice and courage," as well being a man of "wisdom, statesmanship and farsightedness.
"He was a high mountain that remained unwavering in the face of stormy politics, and unshaken, as he was bound by justice, whatever the costs might have been," added the Kuwaiti leader.
Kuwaitis will never forget the supportive stances assumed by King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz and his brother King Fahad bin Abdulaziz during the occupation of Kuwait by Iraqi forces in 1990, he said.
Sheikh Nawaf also paid homage to King Abdullah's regional policies on the Gulf Cooperation Council, which "continuously targeted the interests of these nations and their people, and effectively contributed to maintaining their stability and security during numerous times of difficulty." Additionally, he said, "the Arab world will not forget the late King's position on supporting the Palestinian affair and the Palestinian people." On his international policies, His Highness the Crown Prince said that King Abdullah "assumed a prominent role in resolving many international humanitarian issues and introducing an inter-cultural dialogue aimed at spreading peace and coexistence amongst nations and peoples." He reiterated his expressions of condolences to the newly-enthroned King Salman bin Abdulaziz and wishes of success that the new ruler may assume his role in an able and constructive manner.
His Highness the Crown Prince offered similar words of grief and optimism to both the newly-appointed Crown Prince and Deputy Premier Prince Muqrin bin Abdulaziz and Deputy Crown Prince, Second Deputy Premier and Interior Minister Prince Mohammad bin Nayef bin Abdulaziz.
