Morocco's King Mohammed VI has entrusted Abdelilah Benkirane, the secretary general of the Justice and Development Party (PJD), with forming a new government, a statement by the Ministry of Royal Household, Protocol and Chancellery said on Monday.
The Moroccan monarch received Benkirane in the Royal palace in Casablanca three days after the parliamentary elections, in which PJD secured the majority of seats for the second consecutive time.
Benkirane is Morocco's 18th prime minister since the country's independence on March 2, 1955.
