NIHR holds training on visiting detention centres

The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) has held a training session on “Visiting Detention Centres” for the members of the Council of Commissioners.
The course was conducted by the NIHR’s Vice-Chairman, Abdulla Ahmed Alderazi, and Head of the Economic, Social and Cultural Rights Committee, Maria Khoury.
The training session aimed to give the participants an overview about the monitoring of detention centres, the main legal basics followed, as well as the criteria to be verified, including unannounced visits, inspection methods and the final report.
The course is within the terms of reference of the NIHR, and in line with its role in consolidating human rights.
