A total of 804 cartons and 43 packets of duty-unpaid cigarettes were seized in Singapore on Jan. 7, announced Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) in a press release on Tuesday.
The authority said an Indonesian-registered vessel was directed for further checks by ICA officers at about 2:45 a.m. on Jan. 7 upon arrival at the Singapore Cruise Center. During the course of checks, duty-unpaid cigarettes concealed in hidden compartments of the vessel were found.
ICA revealed that all three Indonesian crew members, the exhibits and the vessel were handed over to the Singapore Customs for further investigations.
The potential duty and Goods and Services Tax of the cigarettes amounted to about 75,460 Singapore dollars (52,641 U.S. dollars) and 7,100 Singapore dollars (4,953 U.S. dollars) respectively.
