
China on Tuesday called on various parties to reach a consensus on specific issues of sending a regional protection force to South Sudan as soon as possible.
"China welcomes efforts made by countries in the region and relevant parties to maintain peace and stability of South Sudan", said Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying when asked to comment on the decision to deploy a regional protection force to South Sudan made at a summit of an East African bloc.
She said China hopes that various parties will reach an agreement on relevant issues at an early date through friendly talks so as to ease the tension in South Sudan as soon as possible.
The decision to deploy a regional force was made at a summit of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) on Friday.
Hua said China will continue to play a constructive role toward maintaining peace and stability in South Sudan.
