Tripoli – Emad Agag
Libyan Ministry of Interior studied the security situation across Libya, during a meeting on Wednesday, following the killing of a traffic officer while in duty by unknown gunmen on the road to the Tripoli International Airport. The meeting called for intensifying efforts to deal with the challenges security officers are facing in Libya. Among the measures to be taken, providing them with patrols, and coordinating between the supreme security committee of the Interior Ministry and the Military Council in Tripoli to set a plan to maintain security and prevent violations are the main ones. Moreover, the meeting pointed that a prompt crime investigation has to be conducted soon. At the beginning of the revolution, the former Libyan regime released 17000 convicted prisoners , most of which are still free in Libya, attempting to spread chaos and destabilise the country. The town of Bani Walid (180 km southeast Tripoli) was a holdout of pro-Gaddafi loyalists until the very end of the fighting late last year, and tension between residents and National Transitional Council  (NTC) fighters continued after the city\'s fall, where the locals appointed their own government and refused the interference from the Tripoli government. The security situation in Libya raised the doubts of Western governments about the ability of NTC to impose strict laws to clear the area of weapons,to protect the Libyan borders in an area where Al-Qaeda\'s members act, and to restart oil exportation.
