At Nairobi Global Partnership Meet, UAE highlights

 The UAE believes in the vital importance of developing and building responsible, affective and transparent institutions capable of delivering the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda, Yaqoub Al Hosani, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation for International Organisations, told the Second High-Level Meeting of the Global Partnership for Effective Development Co-operation (HLM2) in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi.

The meetings aimed to amplify the positive impact of development co-operation over the next 15 years.

Delivering the UAE's statement at the meeting, Al Hosani stressed the importance of transparency in laying the foundations for peace in communities, realising justice and establishing effective institutions during a plenary session entitled ''Moving Forward: How Effective Development Can Deliver the 2030 Agenda.'' ''Security and stability are also two key factors towards realising the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda,'' he added.

Al Hosani also outlined humanitarian and developmental initiatives and contributions of the UAE to other countries.

The plenary session highlighted the importance of effective development cooperation to delivering the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and took stock of existing commitments to deliver more effective development co-operation. It also explored new ways in which development effectiveness principles are operationalised to achieve newer SDG areas.

Hosted by the Government of Kenya, the two-day high-level meeting offered a unique platform for more than 1500 heads of state, ministers, heads of major international organisations and leaders from civil society, the private sector, foundations, local government and parliaments to showcase successes and identify innovative approaches. Nearly 100 speakers came together in plenary sessions, parallel discussions on bottlenecks, a series of side events and marketplace stalls for showcasing successful innovation, implementation, and sharing knowledge.

The Global Partnership was created at the Fourth High-Level Forum on Aid Effectiveness in Busan, South Korea, in 2011 and came into effect in 2012. It brings together governments, bilateral and multilateral organisations, civil society and representatives from parliaments and the private sector all committed to strengthening the effectiveness of their development co-operation.
