EU Parliament votes to lift Marine Le Pen immunity over Isis tweets
The European parliament
Paris - ArabToday
The European parliament has revoked French presidential candidate Marine Le Pen's immunity for tweeting pictures of violence by Isis.
Ms Le Pen -- a member of the EU parliament -- is under investigation in France for posting three images of executions by Isis in 2015, including graphic images of the death of American journalist James Foley.
On Tuesday, members of the EU's legal affairs committee voted to lift her immunity, but the group's decision needed to be backed by the whole parliament in a second vote.
Ms Le Pen's position as an MEP has meant she has so far been shielded from prosecution.
Lifting her immunity means prosecutors can pursue her for the offence of "publishing violent images", which can carry a penalty of three years in prison and a fine of 75,000 euros (£61,000).
The lifting of her immunity relates to this case only and any action is unlikely to take place before the first round of voting in the French elections on 23 April.--INDEPENDENT

to 'eternal style' of late Alaia
Paris - Emiratesvoice
Two months after legendary designer Azzedine Alaia's sudden death plunged the fashion world into mourning, an exhibition in homage to the "King of Cling" opens Monday in his studios in Paris. The Tunisian-born designer, renowned for the way his clothes hugged the body, died suddenly in November aged 82, reportedly of heart failure after falling down the stairs at his home. The diminutive maverick, who ignored fashion week convention by showing when and where he wanted, in July produced his first couture collection in six years to rapturous reviews. Now some of his most iconic dresses are going on display in the glass-roofed gallery next to his studio and home in the Marais district where he used to show his creations. It includes the dress worn by supermodel Naomi Campbell, his longtime friend and muse, when she led
