
His Majesty King Abdullah II discussed with US Vice-President Joe Biden on Thursday, the strategic partnership between Jordan and the United States, regional and international developments as well as means to address them.
During bilateral and, afterwards, expanded talks attended by top officials from both countries, the King stressed Jordan's keenness to enhance its strategic partnership with the United States.
The talks which were held at Al Husseiniya Palace, also dealt with regional and international efforts to fight terrorism as extremism, and means to address these threats within a holistic approach.
On regional issues, the King reiterated Jordan's support to a political solution that puts and end to the crisis on Syria.
In this context, His Majesty reviewed the burden shouldered by the Kingdom as a result of hosting a large number of Syrian refugees and providing them with basic services.
King Abdullah also voiced support to efforts of the Iraqi government to fight the Daesh terrorist group and guarantee the unity and safety of Iraq.
Discussions also dealt with efforts to achieve peace between the Palestinians and Israelis based on the two-state solution. His Majesty stressed the need for a full end to the continued Israeli violations in occupied Jerusalem.
The US vice-president said the United States appreciated Jordan's support to efforts that aim at achieving peace and stability in the Middle East as well as confronting terrorism and its gangs.
He also stressed keenness of the United States to forge closer cooperation and partnership with Jordan in various fields.
The talks were attended by the Royal Court chief, the King's advisor for military affairs and the chairman of the joint chiefs of staff, the King’s adviser on national security affairs and the General Intelligence Department director, the director of the King's Office and the King's advisor and rapporteur of National Policies Council.
His Majesty also held a lunch banquet in honor of the US vice-president and the accompanying delegation that was attended by top officials.
