His Majesty King Abdullah II late Friday attended the closing session of the Nuclear Safety Summit, which discussed policies to counter smuggling of nuclear materials.
Participants in the session, which was also attended by His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein Bin Abdullah II, reiterated that nuclear threats posed by terrorist organizations remain at the top of threats to global security.
They also underlined the importance of building an architecture to enhance nuclear safety at national, regional and global levels.
Preventing terrorist organizations’ access to nuclear and radioactive materials requires major international cooperation to exchange intelligence, taking into account each state’s local regulations, the participants said.
Such cooperation, they added, would lead to forging closer and solid coordination to build the global nuclear safety architecture.
Also on the agenda of the closing session was efforts to encourage further countries’ engagement in the use of nuclear materials for civilian and peaceful purposes.
