Al Azhar
Cairo - Arab Today

Singaporean Deputy Prime Minister and Coordinating Minister for National Security Teo Chee Hean lauded the great role played by Al Azhar in correcting the wrong interpretations of religious texts.

He further expressed his appreciation for Al Azhar Grand Imam Sheikh Ahmed el Tayyeb.

These remarks came in the cable sent to el Tayyeb on Monday by the Singaporean official who asserted that he benefited from the discussions that took place several days ago during their meeting about the challenges facing his country in dealing with the different ideologies and notions.

Hean welcomed the suggestion of el Tayyeb concerning establishing a center for teaching the Arabic language in Singapore to spread the moderate teachings of Islam.

He further said that Singapore will continue its cooperation with Al Azhar to propagate for tolerance, moderation and co-existence between the different cultures and religions, noting that his country looks forward to receiving el Tayyeb to promote bilateral relations.
