Doha - QNA

HE the President of the Republic of Croatia Dr. Ivo Josipovic has lauded the giant leaps in scientific discovery Qatar has managed to achieve through unique models of international collaboration, including the work of organizations such as Qatar Science and Technology Park (QSTP). President Josipovic paid a visit today QSTP and toured its facilities as part of the program of his official visit to the State of Qatar. On his tour, the Croatian President and his delegation also visited Qatar Robotics Surgery Centre (QRSC), a focal point of world class expertise in robotic surgery development, training and simulation, where they expressed keen interest in possible avenues of cooperation with major healthcare institutions in Croatia. As part of the tour, President Josipovic and his delegation paused at the premises of the Williams F1 team and spoke to their management about their experiences in Qatar, as a member of QSTP and the advantages of the unique platform it offers for applied research and technology development. Speaking on his impressions of the QSTP tour, Dr Josipovic said: “I am truly impressed by the giant leaps in scientific discovery Qatar has managed to achieve through unique models of international collaboration, including the work of organizations such as QSTP. Croatia is eager to take part in some of these initiatives and to engage our researchers and scientists in learning from Qatar’s experience. As a statesman, I can truly say that it is admirable how Qatar is wisely investing in its future generations by effectively deploying its vast revenues from hydrocarbon resources today.” Qatar Science and Technology Park is the national agency charged with executing applied research and delivering commercialised technologies in four themed areas, Energy, Environment, Health Sciences and Information and Communication Technologies. QSTP is located in Qatar Foundation’s Education City and has access to the resources of its cluster of leading research universities. In addition to QSTP’s centres, members include small companies, international corporations and research institutions, which have together committed to funding new ventures, creating intellectual property, enhancing technology management skills and developing innovative new products in line with the national vision. QSTP supports economic and human development in Qatar and has achieved recognition as an international hub for applied research, innovation and entrepreneurship.
