The government, on Sunday, decided, during a cabinet meeting, chaired by Prime Minister, Abdullah Ensour, to begin supplying national industries with natural gas, in case they were ready to receive it.
The decision aims at facilitating the flow of natural gas to national industries as an energy generator, which would reduce the cost of production and contribute to raising their competitiveness.
The cabinet instructed a steering committee that was formed to study providing natural gas to industries, to lay the foundations to determine the priority of supplying natural gas to industries, examine applications and determine the technical specifications of the sub-lines and infrastructure to receive natural gas in factories.
Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Ibrahim Saif, said the cabinet decided to start supplying industries, in need of natural gas, by facilitating the linkage with the Al Fajr company, which operates gas transport lines.
He noted that there were more than 10 factories that asked the ministry for natural gas, including major companies, such as Jordan Phosphate Mines Company (JPMC) and some cement and steel industries.
