The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology in cooperation with Huawei, one of the world’s leading ICT solutions providers, have concluded their second training program, dubbed “Seeds for the Future”.

The program saw the dispatch of IT managers from several Jordanian ministries to the company’s headquarters in China, where they were given
briefs and workshops covering the latest technologies and expertise in their respective fields.

Minister of Communications and Information Technology and Minister of Public Sector Development, Majd Shweikeh, sponsored the closing ceremony, in the presence of Chinese Ambassador in Amman Pan Weifang and a number of Huawei senior leadership.

The training program constitutes a key part of the Memorandum of Understanding signed by the Jordanian government and Huawei during His Majesty King Abdullah II’s visit to China at the end of 2015.

Huawei has already delivered on many aspects of the memorandum, covering the establishment of a regional center for engineers along with specialized training courses for recent engineering graduates. Additionally, the installation of cutting-edge laboratories in two state universities has been completed, allowing students to train using the most state-of-the-art technology and techniques.

“Seeds for the Future is an essential program for the purpose of sharing expertise and enhancing skills of our IT professionals”, the minister said.

“The program contributes to the development of Jordanian engineers’ capacity to utilize state-of-the-art technologies, which bolster’s Jordan’s drive to achieve the Council of Minister’s national strategy, the digitization of Jordan, a strategy that aims to bring all services onto the digital landscape”, she said.

Shweikeh stressed the significance of public-private partnerships, highlighting how a generation capable of coping with the rapid developments in the ICT industry can effectively serve the national economy and contribute to its ongoing development.

“Assistance from private sector leaders such as Huawei creates a model of cooperation that will empower Jordan in its efforts to transfer institutional and ministerial service onto the digital landscape, beginning in 2018. Through our partnership with Huawei, the Jordanian public sector will receive cutting-edge, streamlined knowledge transfer and expertise in order to move forward quickly and effectively”, she added.

The minister also emphasized the significance of the training, which helps to bridge the gap between the education outcomes and the labor market requirements. She commended the efforts made by Huawei in Jordan to support the youth talent development and preparation to enter the highly-skilled workforce.

Pan Weifang, Chinese Ambassador to Jordan said that the participants in the training program are the seeds of the future for Jordan’s ICT sector, and a bridge of the cooperation between the two countries. He stressed that Chinese corporations will continue to pursue close partnerships in Jordan, with the support of His Majesty King Abdullah II.

Huawei’s General Manager in Jordan and Palestine, Andy Wu, expressed his satisfaction with the cooperation with the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology.

“Huawei, as a global provider of technology and in response to its global position as a leader of the technological development, is committed to opening the way for Jordanian expertise to learn about the latest global technologies, and to support the ICT sector in the Kingdom in ways that enhance Jordan’s global competitiveness”, he said

Wu stressed Huawei’s commitment to investing in ICT initiatives that produce long-term sustainable development at the economic, social and environmental levels.

For his part, Hazim Haddad, the Deputy CEO of Huawei’s Jordan , stated: “The conclusion of the second round of training provides Jordan with another tranche of professionals experienced with the latest research and development centers and IT labs, which allows them to better utilize their expertise and address the challenges of the rapid development in the modern communication technology.”

Haddad added that the next stage in the program’s development will focus on the fifth generation of mobile communications. This initiative, he said, will connect everything to the internet, providing an ideal environment for the introduction of “big data”, one of the most important engines of global economic growth.

Huawei Technology is one of the world’s leading companies in the field of communications and information technology and has about 180,000 employees in more than 170 countries around the world, and strives to strengthen its presence in the region, especially in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.
