Saudi Arabia's General Authority for Civil Aviation said that a Saudi Arabian Airlines (Saudia) plane coming from the airport of the Iranian city of Mashhad to Prince Mohammed bin Abdulaziz International Airport suffered a technical malfunction while landing at the airport resulting in 29 passengers suffering different injuries. The official spokesman of the General Authority for Civil Aviation Khaled bin Abdullah Khaybari said that at 4:14 on Sunday morning, Saudi Arabian Airlines Boeing 763 making flight number 2841 and carrying 315 passengers suffered a technical failure of the right rear system of wheels of the plane and landed on the runway without their disengagement, but as a result of the evacuation process and the stampede of the passengers, 29 passengers were injured and 11 of them were transferred to hospital while 18 others suffered minor injuries and were treated at the primary health center at the airport. Khaybari was quoted by Saudi Press Agency (SPA) as saying that the pilot told air control tower that there was a technical glitch in the back wheel system, making it impossible to lower the landing wheels of the right side of the plane and instantly the technical authorities at the airport made necessary preparations and processing of the runway for such a case once they received the pilot's notification. He added that immediately, a state of emergency was declared at the airport and the incident was handled by fire and rescue teams and the relevant authorities as well as the air investigation office of the Authority.
