His Highness General Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan
Abu Dhabi - Arab Today

Some 1,500 people who sustained injuries in the war in Yemen will receive medical care in hospitals in the UAE, Sudan and India, the Emirates Red Crescent (ERC) announced on Thursday.

The ERC in a press statement said that the humanitarian medical gesture is in implementation of directives given by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and is followed by His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.

The move, which comes under the close follow up of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler's Representative in the Western Region, and the ERC President, underlined the continuous support provided by the UAE to alleviate the suffering of the Yemeni people and strengthen their resilience to face the difficult circumstances they were enduring as a result of the ongoing crisis in the country.

The ERC in co-ordination with the Yemeni government has put in place all facilities required to immediately airlift the wounded to the designated hospitals.

''Fifty critical cases will be immediately airlifted to receive much-needed medical care and treatment in the UAE hospitals, while the remaining groups will be taken to hospitals in Sudan and India. A treatment programme has been prepared to treat each case according to the assessment of its health condition,'' the ERC added.

The wounded are currently being cared for in Yemeni hospitals. Given the deteriorating conditions of hospitals there, particularly in terms of facilities and health cadres, the ERC has undertaken to provide medical care to these cases as part of the UAE's consistent efforts to support the legitimate government and the Yemen people.

The ERC will also bear the expenses of the health escorts travelling with the wounded as part of its psychological and moral support programme for the patients.

The ERC is also providing medical assistance to the Yemeni health sector as part of its efforts to remove obstacles it was facing and enable it to deliver healthcare services to the Yemeni people. ERC is deploying its aid workers in Yemen to assess requirements needed by the health sector and secure them.

The ERC has previously provided treatment to scores of Yemeni people injured in the war and sent medical and relief convoys in support of the Yemeni people.
