14 dead in monsoon-fueled Philippines flooding

A monsoon that brought five days of heavy rain to parts of the Philippines caused 14 deaths and the evacuation of more than 130,000 people, officials said. In addition to the deaths, another 13 people were missing and 37 injuries were reported after flooding and landslides in the hardest hit areas, Manila Standard Today reported Monday. The areas hardest hit are still recovering from typhoon Pablo, a powerful 2011 storm that devastated the region and killed more than 1,000 people. Manila's Office of Civil Defense for Region 11 said Davao Oriental was the hardest his area, suffering seven fatalities. Six people were killed in the Compostela Valley, officials said.
