Canadian landslide cuts off 300 campers

A landslide in western Canada, after a mudslide last week nearby killed four people, has isolated 300 people in a recreational vehicle park, police said. The surge of mud and water struck the Fairmont Hot Springs resort in the East Kootenay area of British Columbia Sunday afternoon, sweeping through a creek bed, closing Highway 93/95 and washing out a road to an RV park where 300 visitors remain stranded, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported Monday, adding the mudslide flooded the Fairmont Mountainside Vacation Villas resort and its golf course. The incident occurred about 28 miles from Johnsons Landing, B.C., where three homes were crushed by a stream of mud and debris Thursday. The body of one man was recovered Sunday, and the search for three missing women is now regarded as a recovery mission, the Canadian newspaper the National Post said Monday.
