Low expectations for Syria peace talks: Iran\'s president

Hopes for success in the Geneve II talks that aim to resolve crisis in Syria are slim, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said on Wednesday. "We will be happy if the talks achieve (good results), but we are less hopeful about it," Rouhani told reporters before leaving Tehran to take part in the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum in the Swiss city of Davos. Iran seeks to fight terrorism, establish peace and stability in the region and help Syrians end the civil conflict, he said, expressing his hope that the conference on Syria will succeed. However, he added that he does not see sustainable signs for eradicating terrorism through this conference. The peace conference started on Wednesday in the Swiss city of Montreux in an effort to establish a transitional governing body in Syria to lead the country out of the protracted conflict that broke out in March 2011.
