The Ras Al Khaimah police arrested a gang of three Asian robbers within 24 hours after they robbed Dh287,000 from a representative of a company in Al Qarm area.

Brigadier Abdullah Ali Menakhas, director of the criminal investigations department, RAK police, on Saturday said they were alerted that an unidentified robber attacked a representative of a company here, and robbed Dh278,400 from him.

"The victim allegedly resisted the attacker and ran after the robber to get his money back but he could not, and the robber escaped to the Al Qarm area in the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah."

The CID men rushed to the scene, listened carefully to the victim, and got all the details needed, he added. "He said he had Dh287,400 which he collected after selling some products of his company."

He was heading to a local bank in a shopping centre here to deposit the money in his company account, Brig. Menakhas explained. "When getting out of the car and heading to the shopping centre, an unidentified person suddenly attacked him from behind, and snatched the plastic bag carrying money."

At that time, another fellow worker arrived at the site but later than expected as he was supposed to be present with him while depositing the money, he elaborated. "The two representatives tried to catch the robber, but he disappeared in the trees of the Al Qarm area."

The RAK police, in collaboration with the departments of Special Forces, Air Wing, and Second Squad of Coast Guards searched the marine area, but they could not locate the robber.

"The competent police officers, out of their long experience, suspected the two representatives to be involved in the robbery because of loopholes in their explanation."

"Though too many visitors of the shopping mall were scanned, the CID men suspected an expatriate who was staying in Dubai. "Armed with the prosecution permission, and with the help of Dubai police, the suspect's hideout was stormed and he was detained."

The suspect admitted that he was on a visit visa and was looking for a job.

"Someone promised to help him get a good job on condition that he robbed someone else, and gave him all details about the money which he later robbed and hid at Al Qarm area."

The RAK police got back the money in full, Brig Menakhas said. "Investigations showed that the second representative who was not present during the robbery was the one who promised him the job, but later the first representative was also found to be involved in the robbery."
