New York retained its spot as the world’s leading city
Dubai - Arab News

New York retained its spot as the world’s leading city to relax, work and live, propelled by its unequalled reputation as a place to do business, according to the latest Top Cities Index of global researcher Ipsos.
Abu Dhabi, meanwhile, overtook more established cities such as Paris and London to move into second spot from its previous fourth position when the index was issued in 2013.
“23 percent our global sample picked New York as a city that is good for commerce, putting it at the top of the list,” Ipsos said, while Abu Dhabi’s success was “its perception as a business center; with 21 percent of global sample saying it is a good city for business, just two percentage points behind the leader New York.”
London took the third spot in the 2017 index, followed by Paris (4th), Sydney (joint 5th), Zurich (joint 5th), Tokyo (joint 5th), Rome (8th), Los Angeles (9th) and Amsterdam at 10th, the only city that has broken into the top 10 list since 2013.
Saudi Arabia’s Makkah took the 44th spot in the list of 60 cities.
Zurich remained the top city to have an address – as it kept its ranking as the best location for living – and was followed by Sydney. Vancouver, Abu Dhabi and Stockholm meanwhile shared the third spot.
Paris was still the world’s undisputed tourist city, trailed by Rome, New York and London.
In terms of doing business, New York took the pole position, followed by Abu Dhabi and London and Hong Kong shared the joint-third spot.
Ipsos has included 12 more cities for its 2017 index survey, which covered 18,557 adults from 26 countries and with ages ranging between 16 and 64
